I read about the port of Mistley in the East Coast Rivers Cruising Companion and had to go. I knew the River Stour as a wide shallow river from walking on the Shotley pensinsula side. The idea of larger boats making it up to a working port was something I needed to explore.

This is another great day trip from the London. You can take the train to Manningtree and then on the line that runs to Harwich and get off according to how much time you have. I started at Wrabness and loved the walk by the river back up to Manningtree with a good tea stop at Mistley.
