I had seen Hurst Castle from the sea when on boats in the Solent. This was the first time I got to see it up close.

You can start in Keyhaven or Milford-on-Sea and walk out along a long spit to get the castle as well and there is a ferry if you only want to go one way.

The area around Hurst Castle is special as you are right out there in the middle of the channel and can watch the boats go by. The Castle itself is starting to be lost to the sea and I left wondering if (unusually given my heritage interests) we shouldn’t let nature take its course.
