Parkgate to Flint

The start of this walk is a lovely section through the marshes on the edge of the Dee estuary. I took a detour up to an RSPB reserve for lunch. You pass by a military zone and onto a well-marked and maintained link section for the England and Wales coastal paths.
There is then a strange section by roads and through industral estates to get round the head of the Dee estuary. It can feel like you are heading in the wrong direction as it twists and turns to get you to a bridge where pedestrians can pass. Not a pleasurable walk but you at least get the measure of one of Britain’s historic industrial areas.
The start of the Wales Coastal Path is also not its finest hour as you are walking by busy roads. There are not many places to stay but I had found one on a farm inland from the road. The views here across the Dee and back over to Parkgate were splendid and I could see how far I had come.
