This has become one of my favourite walks to do from London. There is a train out to North Fambridge where you can drop down to the Crouch river across fields.

The walk along the Crouch is mostly along a sea wall with great views across the river. You pass some small settlements and marinas that are always interesting. This is “not posh” boat country.

At different states of tide you get wide mud banks with channels through them.
