This is a harder walk than it looks like it should be on the map.

The first stage takes you down towards Camber Sands on a cycle track as you cannot access the river bank on that side out of Rye.

I was there at low tide and had a good walk along Camber Sands and there is a path in the dunes for high tide.

There is then a long and unpleasant stretch by a road inland as a military firing range has commandeered the actual coast.

I always look for redeeming features on a walk but there were few here as you are between gunshots and humming electricity pylons.

After some plodding along the perimeter fence of the range you get back onto the beach by the old Dungeness power stations.

This is a shingle beach that takes you into Dungeness which is a respite but somehow not as impressive as in my imagination.
